CHAFFETZ CREATES NEW INTERIOR-ENERGY SUBCOMMITTEE: Incoming House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz will create a new subcommittee focused on energy and environment policy and oversight of the Interior Department, Energy Department, EPA and Agriculture Department. The new Oversight Subcommittee on Interior will be chaired by Wyoming Republican Cynthia Lummis. Energy oversight in the previous Congress was mostly split between one panel covering energy policy, health care and entitlements, and another subcommittee on regulatory affairs, economic growth and job creation. The subcommittee’s staff director will be Bill McGrath, the legislative counsel for Safari Club International, a hunters group with a focus on conservation. Chaffetz has also picked up Melissa Subbotin, a spokeswoman for Utah Rep. Rob Bishop, as the committee’s director of media relations.
