John Kinkaid pledges not to take a pay raise in 2017; will donate back to community

John Kinkaid pledges to donate his 2017 pay raise back to Moffat County.

Several months ago, I pledged to not take the 30% salary increase that will be effective for the newly elected county commissioners in 2017.  This raise was passed by the state legislature and signed by the governor.  It takes effect in January for officials who won in the November election.    In 2019 it will take effect for the newly elected sheriff, treasurer, clerk/recorder, assessor and so on.

Our county employees have not gotten a raise for quite awhile (The last raise was in 2013 and the 3% was negated by FICA withholding, so not reflected in take-home pay), therefore I do not find it fair for myself to receive a 30% raise.

By law, however, I have to receive this raise.

My pledge is to donate it back to Moffat County in 2017.
